Once something has been invented it needs to be used. This reminiscence of Pandora’s Box is what Hanna Arendt identified as the paradox of modernity. No matter how destructive the invention might be, there’s always going to be some powerful men willing to use it. There’s always going to be Enola Gay’s flying over our destinies just to satisfy the frustration that the powerful men feel while watching their toys locked in the box.
“The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys”
And the price of the toys we are buying them has skyrocketed!!!
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) the total world military expenditure rose to $1739 billion in 2017, a marginal increase of 1.1 per cent in real terms from 2016. In 2017 it represented 2.2 per cent of global gross domestic product (GDP). In other words $230 from each ones pocket has gone to finance our potential mutual destruction.
Most will agree that it is the reminiscence of the tribal mentality that resists letting the humanity to embrace the collaboration and cooperation as the expressions of competiveness. However, before it comes, the important question is not if one tribe is better than the other. THE question is:
Are we all suicidal?
The destructive power this new toys possess has the ability to annihilate the human and most of the other life forms on the Planet. Unfortunately all this power lies in the hands of the only life species that has suicidal tendencies. And there comes the ULTIMATE question:
Evolve or Disappear?
