All we need is what we already have.

«What will make a human being move away from this destructive, self-centred activity?»
At this point in history, where we have reached the pinnacle of our destructive capability, the question Jiddu Krishnamurti posed to David Bohm in 1980 has to be addressed with urgency.

One explanation for our destructive capability is Bohm’s assertion that throughout human history, especially in the early stages of evolution, people had to struggle with nature in order to survive.

But we no longer need to struggle. It is nature that struggles with us.
It is being patient—incredibly patient—to tolerate the tantrums, greed, and selfishness of the only species capable of affecting it in a way that is increasingly causing planetary boundaries to get out of balance. In just a few centuries, six out of nine planetary boundaries have been pushed out of balance by human induced climate change. Balance that took several geologic epochs to build so that the Earth could provide unique life conditions for millions of species to thrive is lost.

That’s the kind of power we have. Not to mention thousands of nuclear bombs ready to be launched as a result of our tribal disputes and idiotic dick-waving contests.

So, here is my humble contribution to answering the question; what will make a human being move away from this destructive, self-centred activity, is realizing that:
–          We are not here to win one another nor to be won. – Nora Bateson.
–          We are here to make «this» easier for each other; whatever this «this» might be – Kurt Vonnegut

We don’t need elections, politicians, institutions, or companies to do so. All we need is what we already have;
Each other.

We need to move from consumers plugged into the Internet of Things to human beings embedded in the Web of Life

Take care of each other!
