Let’s disagree better!

While waiting for the results from the French elections, the entire Europe holds breath. On one side stand the «globalist» who advocate for multicultural diversity; on the other stand the «nationalists» with a focus on local traditions.

But how come these became self-excluding?

Well, one explanation is the success of Steve Bannon’s manual of dogma and rhetoric, which polarized Western democracies to the point where only hateful monologues reached the audience. The puppet master has very skillfully designed the mise en scène into a tribal burlesque where noise, ridicule, and banality are the main elements of narrative expression.
The primary purpose is not to gain more support from your own side but to make your side hate the other more.

For over a decade now, the tribes have been digging trenches and turning off the channels of communication with the other side. The «globalists» and «nationalists» have successfully played Banon’s play, and today’s French elections might be the Grand European Finale—the last play of the season.

It is no longer about programs that promote well-being, progress, and prosperity. It is all about mind-numbing rhetoric whose result will show nothing more than how much one side hates the other.

We have come to perhaps the most dangerous point in history since World War 2. And I don’t have illusions that the two tribes will reach an agreement—at least not soon.

My only hope is that there will still be some common sense on both sides so that we can at least get a chance to disagree better. As long as such space exists, there is hope in finding common ground—some space that brings everyone together because it awakens the deeply rooted shared human needs.
That there remains some sort of shared kitchen and the notion that, like in gastronomy, the more local the tradition, the more global it becomes.

So, let’s disagree better! 👍
S’il-vous-plait! 🙏🏻
